6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing – Marangu Route

What to expect

The Marangu Route, often called the Coca-Cola Route, is the most classic and popular trail to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its relative comfort and accessibility, it is the only route offering hut accommodations instead of tents—providing trekkers with a more social and comfortable atmosphere.

The journey begins at Marangu Gate, winding gently through lush rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert before reaching the glacier-capped summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Unlike other trails, Marangu follows the same route up and down, offering a well-established path with moderate gradients and gradual ascents.

Along the way, climbers experience a dramatic shift in landscapes—from tropical vegetation to high-altitude moorlands filled with giant lobelias and the surreal lunar desert near the summit. Passing through traditional Chagga villages, trekkers enjoy a blend of cultural and natural immersion.

This 6-day itinerary includes an extra acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, significantly increasing summit success and safety. The Marangu Route is perfect for first-time climbers seeking a balance of adventure, comfort, and the incredible achievement of standing atop Africa’s highest peak.
